Upper Huffman Trailhead - Snowmobile Loop

There's a light blanket of snow covering the Sleeping Lady, Mt. Susistna, indicating that it is time to test drive the new winter gear, get a few more chances to squeeze into last year's boots, and time to figure out what we still need. One thing is clear after the icy trail conditions this morning... we need to keep a pair of ice grippers in the car. The freezing/thawing cycles have begun, especially in the higher elevations.

There was a great turn out this morning with lots of new faces. There were about 3 dads, 12 moms and 15 kiddos. The parents carrying their little ones covered about 3.5 miles of ground while the ones trailing the toddler trekkers covered about .6 miles in an hour's time. After we congregated in the parking lot to chat, exchange winter gear tips, snack and sip on some hot cocoa.

Good luck to the parents and kids running in the Anchorage Running Club's Zombie Runs this weekend. It isn't too late to register. You can still register the day of the event. There's a kid's 2K.
