The cabin can sleep 8. |
We have rented both yurts and the cabin in the past! It is the perfect way to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city, yet is is right down the road. We find them especially fun in the winter when the river is frozen, providing us with another wide open trail to walk along. Part of the rental fee for these shelters includes firewood. This is a luxury that doesn't necessarily come with most of the DNR cabins! Reserve one now as they get booked up months in advance.
A basic membership to ERNC is $40 dollars, which provides you with a parking decal (they are not part of the state park system), discounts on yurt/cabin rentals, a quarterly program schedule/newsletter, and the piece of mind that you are supporting a wonderful educational organization.
The trail system there ranges from easy to difficult - there's something for everyone! Check them out for a hike on your own or for their guided ones.
The volunteer staff is always knowledgeable and fantastic. In the winter months the visitor information cabin always has a fire going and hot beverages and snacks to purchase - the perfect reward at the end of a hike. They also have all kinds of educational displays including an area with bones and fur of indigenous animals to hold and feel.
In the coming spring Taiga Trekkers and the Anchorage Outdoor Family Network would like to team up to organize a family outdoor service day and volunteer our time to help out with trail maintenance.
