Coastal Trail from Westchester Lagoon

What a gorgeous day. So many wonderful new faces. Spring is here! The sandhill cranes were flying overhead on their way further north. Bald eagles were soaring. There were about 42 parents and kiddos combined. Most of the group covered exactly 4 miles. It was amazing to see such a variety of kids at different ages! There were a couple of sub groups with in the groups. All going at their respective speeds as some were carrying their kids, some pushing them in strollers and a substantial bunch with little independent trekkers. We even had a few moms join us from off the trail. We hung out for at least an hour after with the kids playing and snacking.

  1. Hi everyone, I'm looking for some shoe advice. My 8 month old baby Marin(hikes w/my husband Jason) needs some warm shoes for when we hike in the mountains. I've been looking at soft-sole boots, but they all look like they'd get wet if she was crawling around on damp/dewey ground. Has anyone used any warm water-repellant boots they can recommend? Any other advice on what would work? Thanks!

  2. Great write up and a wonderful walk under beautiful skies!

@Lish, I love my stonz booties and duke has walked in mud puddles with only dampness getting through! They are a bit more streamlined than the Molehill boots, but those are a bit warmer!

  3. Hey Lish,
We like rubber boots this time of year and just layer the socks. If it is super cold I'll throw a handwarmer in each one. They actually seem to stay on our little bear's feet better then his winter snow boots too, when he's in the pack.
